Traditional Japanese recipe: Shaké (Salmon) onigiri
Shake Onigiri is a simple treat that’s quick to make and perfect for busy days. It is also ideal for picnics or hanami, the Japanese tradition of sakura viewing. Its convenience makes it a popular choice, perfect for grabbing on the go or a picnic on a sunny day.
Ingredients (2 servings)
Cooked rice: 350g
Salmon flakes: 30g
Green onions (finely chopped): 30g
Soy sauce: 1 tablespoon
Sesame oil: 1 tablespoon
Optional: seaweed, sesame seeds
Directions
In a bowl, combine the cooked rice, soy sauce, and sesame oil until evenly mixed.
Add the salmon flakes and chopped green onions, optional ingredients and thoroughly mix everything together.
Divide the mixture into 4 portions.
Take each portion and wrap it in plastic wrap, shaping it into a triangle.
Unwrap the onigiri, place on a plate, and serve.
Tips
Adjust seasoning to taste
Use warm, freshly cooked Japanese short-grain rice
Shape each onigiri with love
Wrap individually in plastic or nori seaweed for portability
